5 Study Methods That Actually Work
It all begins with an idea.
1. Good study environment
If concentration is your problem, then the right environment will help you greatly. Your study area should be free from as many distractions as possible.
You will concentrate better when you study in the same place and same time every day. This is because you are conditioning your brain to associate that place with studying.
When it is dinner time, you expect to eat. When you sit down on the sofa, you expect to watch TV.
Developing the habit of studying in the same place at the same time every day will improve your concentration
2. Don’t rely on motivation
Can you imagine an athlete waiting for inspiration to start practicing for their competition?
Of course not.
They train daily to stay competitive whether they feel like it or not. Like the athlete, you must prepare for tests and examinations by studying regularly.
You can expect good study days and bad study days. Just like there are good training days and bad ones.
The idea is to prepare well for your study sessions so that there are more good days than bad days.
Make studying well a habit!
3. Have a plan when you study
Put it down in black and white—including the details—What are you planning to learn in your study session?
Make it very clear what you are expected to know by the end of the study session and test yourself.
4. Set fixed end times
Parkinson’s law states that “Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.”
Have you ever experienced this? You have an essay to submit but you just couldn’t write anything until the last hour!
Then you suddenly become extremely productive.
It is easy for all of us to procrastinate. That’s why you should set an end time for every task! You will find yourself becoming a lot more efficient!
5. Take regular breaks
Have you ever felt extremely tired but decided to carry on studying, only to find yourself forgetting everything the next day? We can’t learn effectively when we are tired.
That’s why it is important to take regular breaks to ensure that we are in a good state to study. I usually take a 5-minute break to exercise or drink water every 25 minutes. Try it with me.
